Derpy Hooves
Derpy Hooves is the fan given name of a gray pegasusbackground pony who became famous among the show'sinternet following due to having a cross-eyed, or "derpy" expression in the first episode. Starting with Feeling Pinkie Keen, the show's crew began giving the pony crossed eyes intentionally, as a nod to the fans. The name has since been adopted by the crew and by Hasbro.
Octavia
Octavia is the placeholder name of a background character who makes her debut in The Best Night Ever. She has a dark gray mane and tail, a light gray coat, and light purple eyes.
Diamond Tiara
Diamond Tiara is a school-age pony and a classmate of Apple Bloom who first appeared in Call of the Cutie.
Silver Spoon
Silver Spoon is a school-aged pony who first appears in Call of the Cutie. She and Diamond Tiara are classmates of Apple Bloom. They are the "popular girls" of the class and school bullies who call ponies without cutie marks "blank flanks".
Doctor Whooves
Doctor Whooves is the fan-given name of a popular background pony. The name was eventually adopted by the show's crew.
Berry Punch
Berry Punch is the placeholder name of an earth pony who appears in many episodes as a background pony. She has a plum colored coat and a mulberry mane. Her cutie mark consists of a bunch of grapes and a strawberry.
Big Macintosh
Big Macintosh is Applejack's and Apple Bloom's older brother, of the Apple family. His first appearance is in the first episode, where he is seen walking idly in Ponyville the moment Twilight Sparkle first arrives. He is later introduced during the Apple family reunion, although he had no speaking roles until the fourth episode, Applebuck Season. He is soft-spoken, and often replies with a simple "eeyup" or "nnnope".
Braeburn
Braeburn is an earth pony from Appleloosa, and is Applejack'scousin. He appears in the episode Over a Barrel.
Mr. and Mrs.Cake
Mr. Carrot Cake and Mrs. Cup Cake are the owners ofSugarcube Corner and Pinkie Pie's employers and landlords, as they rent the loft above the shop to her. Their full names have not yet been used in the show, but the two have been mentioned by the show's creator, Lauren Faust.
Granny Smith
Granny Smith is an old-aged earth pony, Applejack's grandmother, and a recurring character in the series. Her cutie mark is an apple pie, much like the rest of the Apple Familys' cutie marks.
Holity Toity
Hoity Toity is an earth pony and a major representative of the fashion world from Canterlot.
Photo Finish
Photo Finish is a famous fashion photographer in Equestria. She is based on the iconic editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine,Anna Wintour.
Sapphire Shores
Sapphire Shores is a famous earth pony popstar from Canterlot, whom Rarity addresses as "The Pony of Pop". She is introduced in the episode A Dog and Pony Show.
Royal Guards
The royal guards are the Military Organization of Equestria that consists of white pegasus ponies and dark gray unicorn poniesclad in solid golden armor who serve Princess Celestia, and dark gray pegasus ponies with purple armor who servePrincess Luna. They act as bodyguards for the princesses, ceremonial guards in festivities, and chauffeurs in several occasions. The guards' helmet crests are reminiscent of Romangalea, and they are the same color as their tails. The guards are generally shown wearing extremely serious expressions and almost never speak.
Soarin'
Soarin' is one of the male members of The Wonderbolts. He appears in the earlier episodes of the series, and makes his speaking debut in The Best Night Ever, which is also where another Wonderbolt, Spitfire, mentions his name.
Spitfire
Spitfire is one of the female members of The Wonderbolts. She first appears in Sonic Rainboom, and her name is first used inThe Best Night Ever. She and Soarin' are the first two members of the Wonderbolts to be named on the show.
Dj Pon3
DJ Pon3 is the fan-given name of a unicorn pony who performs as a disc jockey in Suited For Success. The name "DJ Pon3" was later used in a promotional video on The Hub.
Fancypants
Fancypants is a Canterlot high society unicorn pony that is introduced in the episode Sweet and Elite. Rarity describes him as the most important pony in Canterlot. His entourage frequently change their opinions to agree with his own. When Rarity first bumps into him, there is a mare unicorn hovering over him who followed him around the street.
Junebug
She is one pony Spike blindsided inSecret of my Excess by telling her that it is his birthday. He demands a present from her.
Hayseed Turnip Truck
The worker pony who greeted Rarity inSweet and Elite. He says he knows her from a hoedown in Ponyville. His cutie mark is three turnips.
Unnamed Doctor pony
The doctor who examines Spike inSecret of My Excess, but he fails to diagnose him because he "[doesn't] know anything about dragons, [he knows] about baby ponies." His cutie mark is a stethoscope and a first-aid kit.
Unnamed Vet pony
She examines Spike in Secret of my Excess, but can't diagnose him since she's "never seen a real live dragon before." Her cutie mark is a dog's head, a cat's head, and a white bird.
Ace
Apple Bloom gets his racket covered in apple mush in Call of the Cutie. According to the artist who designed him, he's the fourth best tennis playing pony in Equestria. Appears without a costume in Luna Eclipsed. His cutie mark is not shown, but the artist writes that it's tennis balls.
Affero
Appears briefly in the VIP section at theGrand Galloping Gala. Partially obscured by an orange tuft hanging from a banner. His cutie mark is a scroll.
Cheerilee
Prince Blueblood
Prince Blueblood is a unicorn pony who appears at the Grand Galloping Gala as the object of Rarity's affections.
